Electrical Compliance Forms
Before any prescribed electrical work, (PEW) begins, be sure to ask the technician to present their current electrical license.
Forms
-
Certificate of Compliance is a mandatory legal documents issued by licensed electricians upon completing prescribed electrical work. They verify that fixed wiring is safe, tested, and complies with AS/NZS 3000 standards. The CoC certifies compliance, while the ESC confirms safety for connection to the power supply.
-
ESC ( Electrical Safety Certificate ) are required documents from licensed electricians confirming electrical work is safe, tested, and meets regulations.
-
An Electrical Warrant of Fitness (EWOF) in New Zealand is a mandatory safety certification for caravans, motorhomes, boats, and food trucks that connect to a 230-volt supply system.
-
Issued by an independent Registered Electrical Inspector, it confirms the installation is safe for connection to the network (ROI)
Safety Forms
SWMS, JSA, and TA are all safety documentation acronyms designed to identify hazards and control risks before work begins, but they differ significantly in legal status, level of detail, and application.
Mixing them up can lead to compliance issues; a JSA cannot replace a required SWMS.

-
Focus: Routine or non-routine tasks that are not classified as high-risk construction work.
Legal Status: Best practice, not typically legally mandated on its own, but demonstrates due diligence.
Detail Level: Moderate. Breaks a job down into steps, identifies hazards, and lists controls. It is usually more general than a SWMS.
Application: Broad usage across various industries (manufacturing, maintenance, etc ).
-
Focus: Analyzing the specific steps, methods, tools, and environment of a task.
Legal Status: Often used synonymously with JSA or as a precursor to developing a SWMS.
Detail Level: Highly detailed regarding the "how-to" of a job (manual/mental effort, duration, frequency).
Application: Often promoted by safety bodies (e.g., Site Safe NZ) to improve both safety and efficiency.
